Otherwise known as “the prettiest cat in the world”, Kali is a long-haired calico kitty and is probably the momma cat of at least two litters. I suspect only one kitten, Dutch, survived from her 2nd to last litter, while four younger kittens survived her last litter because their health rebounded when I took over caregiving in late July 2019. The sweet tortoiseshell girl, Rachel, has very similar brown and black fur.

Kali is now spayed, healthy, and happy. Each cat has their own personality. Kali is a beautiful calico sweetheart even though she avoids being close to humans.

Interestingly, despite being feral and spayed, Kali is not ear-tipped due to the surgery being perplexing and taking longer than usual. Also, the local veterinarian was more accustomed to treating domesticated cats and lost track of ear-tipping.
The perplexing situation with Kali during surgery was that some of her uterus was extremely difficult to locate. The vet probed and probed, and eventually had to quit before the anesthesia wore off. Although this is unusual, it does happen sometimes. The long-term effect of this may be that occasionally she might feel / act as though she is in heat. Male cats won’t be attracted to her as they normally would, and she won’t be able to breed.
I’ve watched her behaviors and the behaviors of boy kitties around her with great interest. I think there are times when she feels sexy but is frustrated that the boys have little interest in her sexiness and awesome beauty.

After a while of being a loner except at feeding time, Kali has become playful with the kittens. She is much-loved by all the other cats. Now, when hunting and traveling her territory, she is almost always accompanied by one of them at a time. The socialization of the cats with each other has been interesting to observe. They all get along great but sometimes two of them develop a special bond. Now that Boots has gone to kitty heaven, Duke ‘seems to be’ looking to Kali as his new BFF. I’ll have to keep watching before stating this for sure.
